Local 990-NAC

Overview

A Local 990-NAC is simply a term for a group of representatives from the nonprofit sector, the accounting profession, state charity regulators, and other interested organizations meeting to address issues related to the Form 990. Quality 990 aims to have at least one NAC in every state.

The activities of each Local 990-NAC fall under two main categories: education and recommendations. Local 990-NACs will develop activities for nonprofits, the accounting profession and the public that will lead to greater understanding of the Form 990, its importance, and the new regulations regarding disclosure. Based on these activities, Local 990-NACs will then make recommendations on how to improve the quality of Form 990 reporting. These recommendations will be used to create a national report on Form 990 reporting.

The Local 990-NAC Project Office will provide a clearinghouse of information to assist these state and regional efforts. The Project Office will help disseminate data and ideas for activities, including updates and reports on what other NACs are doing. The Project Office is located at the headquarters of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives in Alexandria, Virginia (800/666-3863, ext. 490).
